Hello, I am looking for some advice. I am an experienced educator with a Mater's Degree in Education holding credentials in special education, biology, history, elementary education, and language arts in middle school. I would like to ask a few questions in hope that an educator in New York City can answer. 1. What is the pay and is it possible to for me to be able to support myself, alone, in the Big Apple? 2. How difficult is it to find employment as a teacher? 3. I have found several job openings at the Democracy Charter Schools. Is this a good place to work? 4.What are good schools to look at applying? 5. Where is a good place to start looking for a place to live in the area? Any other information provided would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to hear Peggy Sheehy talk about anything she wants to talk about! Peggy was the first educator to take students into a virtual world (2007). Her pioneering work using virtual worlds and MMOGs in the classroom is redefining what learning looks like in the digital age. This 7 min. machinima (video) was captured during a presentation Peggy gave at The University of Shefield via Second Life. In this segment, she is discussing a lesson on body image. http://youtu.be/ieO-LjaLWy8

I would love to have the opportunity to speak at TEDxNYED. I am a student at Syosset High School in NY and I'm writing a book on education reform: Time to Think Different: Why America Needs a Learning Revolution. I offer a unique perspective on how this country must revolutionize education.

As a literary scholar, interfaith minister, & student of myth, spirituality, and evolution, I find that I don't fit neatly into many categories. My video builds on the promise of diversity to create a new metaphor for teaching in the 21st century. I look forward to presenting at TEDxNYED 2012!!!

I am an organic farmer in the summer and a technology educator in the off season. I am passionate about both roles. This is a short lesson about Monsanto I have done with my media literacy classes at Manhattan Country School. I think it is important that we do not preach to our students about important issues, but instead, give them opportunities to discover truths and contradictions on their own.

Here is the video:

As a public school teacher living (and marrying) a successful charter school teacher, I have a unique insight into charter school world. This insight has kept me motivated and passionate, as I recognize that we are all trying to close the achievement gap with a variety of challenges to face in our different schools. I see TEDxNYED as an opportunity to advocate for all students, so I have to advocate against what my Union does successfully, protecting bad teachers.

I would like to speak briefly about energy projects for kids (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUx9oJC4VGc). I will practice many times so that I am only 3 minutes and develop some resources for interested people to check out after the talk. Pick me. About me: I am a tech coordinator in an independent school in NY (in teaching longer than my students have been alive). I am passionate about kids making stuff - electronic, virtual, programmable or just plain old stuff - power is a great context for that.
